MORCOMBE (SYDNEY)

Queensland police will search an area of bushland on the Sunshine coast after charging
a 41-year-old man with the murder of missing teenager DANIEL MORCOMBE.

The man was arrested and charged last night, nearly eight years after DANIEL went missing
while waiting for bus in the Woombye district.

He's been charged with murder, deprivation of liberty, child stealing, indecent treatment
of a child and interfering with a corpse and remains in police custody to appear in Brisbane
Magistrates Court tomorrow.

DANIEL's parents say they're finding it tough coming to terms with the idea their son
has been murdered.

BRUCE MORCOMBE has told Seven News the arrest comes after years of relentless searching
and he remains hopeful DANIEL's body will be found.

Meanwhile, in New South Wales, police have asked the public for help after two apparent
attempts to abduct children yesterday.

Police say in the first incident, a man grabbed an eight-year-old girl in a park near
Penrith in Sydney's west while her mother was nearby, before she could break free, and
in the second, at Wyoming on the Central Coast, a 13-year-old boy was chased by a man
who got out of an older model red Ford Falcon sedan.

BOMB (SYDNEY)

In a new development in the MADDIE PULVER bomb hoax case, police have seized a computer
believed to be connected to the note left with the Mosman teenager.

The Sun-Herald newspaper reports police attached to Strike Force Haddon seized the
computer from Kincumber Library on the New South Wales Central Coast last week.

The PULVER family owns a holiday house in Avoca, a 10-minute drive from the library.

GILLARD US (PERTH)

JULIA GILLARD says Australia wants to see the United States economy regain its momentum
and supports the continuing US presence in Asia as a cornerstone of regional stability.

Addressing the gala dinner of the annual Australian-American Leadership Dialogue in
Perth last night, the Prime Minister said Australia and the US have worked together in
the G20 group of nations to bring the global economy back from the brink during the Global
Financial Crisis.

But she says the events of recent weeks show the work is not yet done.

Ms GILLARD's audience included World Bank President ROBERT ZOELLICK and the US Assistant
Secretary of State for the Asia-Pacific, KURT CAMPBELL.

LIBS WA WRAP (PERTH)

Federal Opposition leader TONY ABBOTT has used his speech at West Australian state
Liberal conference to continue his attack on the carbon and mining tax.

Addressing the conference yesterday, Mr ABBOTT accused the Labor government of deliberately
attacking Western Australia with the two taxes, which he says will damage the state's
prosperity.

Mr ABBOTT says the federal government's pursuit of these two taxes demonstrates it's
out of touch with the country's most dynamic state.

Meanwhile, Federal Liberal Party president ALAN STOCKDALE says his party needs more
funds and donations to be ready for any snap election.

And, a push to end welcome-to-country ceremonies has been voted down at the conference,
with Aboriginal MP KEN WYATT saying it goes against the party's values.

CSG NEWMAN (BRISBANE)

The Liberal National Party has promised to provide Queensland farmers the protection
they need against the burgeoning coal seam gas industry.

Party's leader CAMPBELL NEWMAN has promised to fix what he sees as an imbalance between
farmers' and miners' rights.

Mr CAMPBELL'S statement came a day after Opposition Leader TONY ABBOTT won praise from
Greens leader BOB BROWN for backing farmers' rights to deny miners access to their land.

FREEBODY (CAIRNS)

Queensland's Liberal National Party has suspended the membership of one of its candidates
for the upcoming state election over a highly inflammatory email about Prime Minister
JULIA GILLARD.

LNP State Director MICHAEL O'DWYER says PAUL FREEBODY, the candidate for the state
electorate of Cairns, has had his membership suspended pending an investigation into a
range of matters concerning his recent conduct.

Mr FREEBODY stood aside from his candidacy following accusations he wrote in an email
that he hoped JULIA GILLARD follows the history of assassinated US President JOHN F KENNEDY.

However, Mr FREEBODY claims the email was doctored.

US VOTE PERRY (CHARLESTON)

Conservative Texas Governor RICK PERRY has declared he's running for president, becoming
the latest Republican candidate to mount a 2012 White House challenge.

PERRY says with faith in God, the support of his family and an unwavering belief in
the goodness of America, he wants to be president of the United States.

PERRY is a three-term governor, and considered among the Republican frontrunners, alongside
former Massachusetts Governor MITT ROMNEY and US congresswoman MICHELE BACHMANN of Minnesota.

CITY2SURF (SYDNEY)

Motorists have been asked to avoid central Sydney and eastern beachside suburbs while
road closures are in place.

All roads are expected to reopen by 4pm (AEST)
