Fed: Labor asks China not to give Zimbabwe "soft" financial help

Labor is urging China not to give Zimbabwe any soft financial assistance, which could
directly benefit the MUGABE regime.

Zimbabwe President ROBERT MUGABE is in China on a week-long visit, trying to secure
financial aid and investment in his country's ailing economy.

But Opposition foreign affairs spokesman KEVIN RUDD says any financial help from China
could compromise its international standing.

Mr RUDD's told ABC Radio he'd be deeply concerned if China gets into the business of
financially propping up MUGABE's regime.

The United Nations has condemned Zimbabwe's so-called urban cleanup drive which involves
demolishing shanty towns where thousands of Zimbabweans live.
