NSW: Baby boy orphaned in Christmas horror crash

The holiday season has begun with a baby boy being orphaned after his parents were
killed in a tragic three-car crash near Tamworth in north-western New South Wales yesterday.

Three people died and four others were injured in the collision which occurred shortly
after noon on the New England Highway near Wallabadah.

The three-month-old baby was first airlifted by Westpac helicopter to Tamworth hospital
and then transferred by air to Sydney's Westmead Hospital intensive care unit.

The baby is to be treated for possible spinal and internal injuries and is in a serious
condition.

Police say the boy's parents, who were from Brisbane and believed to be both on their
20s, died after their car crashed head-on with a Commodore sedan being driven by a 26-year-old
Sydney man who also died.

Tamworth police spokesman, Inspector ANDREW WILSON, says the baby boy's parents had
saved his life by strapping him in a baby capsule.

Elsewhere in the state, two people died yesterday in separate accidents in Sydney suburbs.
